Niagara Falls

At last, it was the day to see Niagara Falls! We were all very excited to finally see this natural wonder of Canada. It felt odd because Niagara Falls has always been this place you hear about all your life, and the ability to actually go and see it felt surreal. It was only a few hour drive from Turkey Point which was a nice change from our long drives recently. We found a parking lot a few hundred metres from the main Niagara Falls area for only $5.00 all day which was a relief as they could easily charge triple.  The downtown area was very interesting and reminded me of what a Las Vegas street would look like with animated buildings and flashy signs. I wasn't really expecting that style of town for a natural attraction but it was very festive.
After walking through the Animated streets, we made our way down the path that walks along the Falls allowing you to view the American Falls first and secondly the Canadian. I must add, the Canadian Falls were much more impressive! We took a couple hours to wander along the path and admire the amazing falls while being refreshed by the mist. It truly is fantastic and a natural wonder to see these falls and its hard to fathom the amount of water that passes over the falls every minute. Interesting fact: About 1 Million bathtubs of water flow over the falls every minute!

It gets even more exciting the closer you get to the falls because the water becomes very loud and the mist thickens. At one point you can walk past the edge of the falls and actually watch the water right before it takes the plunge over the edge.
We also visited the Niagara's Fury show located in the tourist center at the end of the Canadian Falls which was lots of fun and educational. For less than $15.00 you go into the state of the art theatre for a half hour show and learn about how the falls were formed. Be prepared to put on the parka they supply you with as you will get soaked during the show!A couple of men felt they were above the Parka and I would say they regretted that choice about 10 minutes into the show.
Niagara Falls was a wonderful stop on our journey and a memory that will stick with us forever. The best part of it was that unlike most attractions these days, there was no admission charge aside from a small parking fee. You really cannot find free attractions anymore so its refreshing to of found one.  Oddly enough, the mix between natural beauty and tacky tourist streets seemed to work for me and overall just felt like the ultimate tourist destination. Usually I am on the hunt to venture off the beaten trail but occasionally when you fully embrace your inner tourist it can be very fun.
